Please be aware that we have received notification of a date change to a temporary road closure at The Street, Draycott for approximately 395 metres.

The new date for the works to commence is 12th October 2026  and is expected to last until  23rd October 2026 between the hours of 00:00 - 23:59.

These works are for Kier to carry out drainage works on behalf of Somerset Highways. 

The contractor has indicated that access for Emergency Services through the site is not permitted on this occasion.

Further information: 
This closure relates to drainage works ref DR005261 which are to resolve issues around surface water, with the potential to flood adjacent properties. The works are planned to take place between 12 – 23 October.

The extents of the closure are below, approximately from Twitchens Lane south to Station Road. Though there will be signage at the junction with the A371 to advise of the closure ahead.

The closure is south of the village shop so there should be no impact on deliveries.

While the road is closed access will be restricted. While pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, there may be times when vehicles will be unable to approach. The closure will be manned by operatives who will be able to answer any concerns.

As part of the administration of a road closure, notifications are sent to both Waste Services and the Emergency Services. Should they have any concerns they have the relevant contact details to discuss.

Prior to the closure being in place, affected properties will receive a letter drop and there will be advanced warning signage on site. We have also asked our contractor Kier to discuss the works with the pub and ensure that “Businesses Open as Usual” signs are used appropriately.

Should the works finish ahead of time the closure will be removed as soon as practicable. While the works are taking place the road closure is required for safety of both the operatives and the public, and due to the open excavations.

These works have also been included on the structural maintenance packs distributed to all Local Community Networks.

Wales & West Utilities have just confirmed that the road closure will be lifted on Sunday evening, 27th September 2026.

The road will revert to traffic lights from Monday, 28th September.

Wales & West Utilities said they had hoped to lift the closure last weekend, but a hairline fracture was found in the gas main, which caused a delay.

Temporary Road Closure:  ttro880315N - Wells Road and Draycott Road, Rodney Stoke and Cheddar

These works will take place in 2 stages:

During phase 1 (1 – 27 September) road closures will be in place on Draycott Road between:

·         Hillier Garden Centre to outside Strawberry Fields Luxury Lodges 

·         The junction of School Lane and Latches Lane 

 

The works are expected to commence on 1st September 2026 and last for 28 days to enable Wales & West Utilities to carry out gas works.

The contractor has indicated that access for Emergency Services through the site is not permitted on this occasion.
